January is my FAVOURITE month, looking ahead to a brand new year! After an incredible New Year’s trip to Japan, I’m so inspired to get started on achieving all my goals for 2018.
(As you can see, I’ve already decked out my room in all things Japanese!)
2018 is a huge, exciting year for me. At the end of last year, I finished my Bachelor of Science, which means my graduation is in May!! (I am so excited!!) Not only that, but in one month, I start the next chapter of my life – postgraduate study, with an Honours degree – bringing me closer to my next goal, a PhD.
2017 was an awesome year for me, if not the best year of my life. I achieved what I set out to do and more, in both professional and personal respects. I met some incredible people, and got to know a lot of them; I got to make lots of cool cakes for some equally cool people. I did lots of travelling both in New Zealand and elsewhere. I learned more than I could have imagined, about more things than I could have imagined.
So what do you have in store for me, 2018?
MORE ME TIME.
It was a great year, but it was hard fitting everything in. My “me” time was made up of gym time and cake time (cake time is fun, but working to a deadline can be stressful). Although baking and fitness are two of my passions, I want 2018 to be about making time for other things I love, too. Me-time this year will be about creative time, getting-things-done time, chill time, & family time. Writing has always been a big part of who I am, so I’d like my blog to be more of a creative outlet for me. (Expect lots more updates from here on in!)
As I said before, I met some people in 2017 who really changed my perspective. Being kind is not just about being nice or polite; kindness is about goodwill, patience, generosity, gentleness, tenderness. It’s about being able to identify when others around you are in need of something, and doing your best to help them out – even if it’s in the smallest way.
KEEP DOING WHAT I’M DOING.
The start of a new year is a great time for reflecting. While it’s great to recognise the things one would like to improve on, how often do we pat ourselves on the back for all that we’ve achieved? I’ve come so far in the past few years, and I can’t wait to keep going.
2018 will be a year of learning, experiencing, reading, laughing, living.
Most importantly, have fun!
